Claude Duet: what it is, who can get it, and how to prepare

Claude Duet is a proactive agent app from Anthropic, announced as a research preview on October 21, 2026. In Anthropic's words, it "comes to you with what needs your attention": each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across the apps you connect, then keeps tabs on them and messages you only when something needs you.

How Claude Duet works

  • It is a separate app on iOS and Android, plus claude.ai on the web, with one ongoing conversation by text or voice.
  • It reuses your Claude account's memory, skills and connectors (Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar and thousands more).
  • It runs on its own cloud computer (a virtual machine with its own browser), so it keeps working with your laptop closed. It messages you when a task is done or needs review.
  • It checks your connected accounts every few hours, not in real time.

Who can get it today (as of October 23, 2026)

  • Waitlist only, starting with US Claude Pro and Max subscribers.
  • Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet.

What Claude Duet costs

No separate price. It is included in Claude Pro ($20/month, or $17/month billed annually) and Max (from $100/month), and it uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude. Background checks and big tasks (a financial model, a deck) count toward those limits.

For context: OpenAI dots launched on September 29, 2026 on plans from $100/month (ChatGPT Pro tiers and Business Premium). Grok Bot launched on August 11, 2026 on $120-$300 plans and starts at $30/month today.

The safe rule

Let Duet read and draft; you approve every send, payment and signature yourself.

  • Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it is about to do and waits for your approval.
  • Some actions are off-limits even with your approval, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts.
  • You can disconnect any app at any time. Connect only the accounts the job needs.

What isn't ready yet (Anthropic's own words)

  • It "may misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent".
  • It "can miss something that arrives between checking in with you".
  • Personal errands such as booking tickets "aren't quite as strong" yet, and it can't show you its browser yet.

Get ready now, from anywhere

Duet reuses what your Claude account already knows, so you can prepare before you get access:

  1. Connect the apps you would hand it (Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack) as Claude connectors.

  2. Turn on memory and add the skills you use every week.

  3. Write down three recurring tasks you would delegate, with the approval you'd want on each.

Five starter tasks (adapted from Anthropic's examples)

These are ideas to try once you have access. I have not run them myself: Duet is not available in the UAE yet.

  1. A morning brief focused on one client or one project.
  2. Find unpaid invoices and draft reminders for your review (it asks before sending).
  3. Prepare payroll for review, never for automatic submission.
  4. A weekly sales dashboard that refreshes before your brief.
  5. Schedule meetings across your calendar and Slack threads.
